Background:
I have never really been interested in pushing for trophies before. But as I maxed my TH10 and got a bit sick of DE hunting I though it was time to give it a go.
Step 1 Road to Master 3
Army: I prefer hogs (even after the update)
Bases: Looking for any Th8s, Th snipes, weak Th9s (non anti-hog) and weak TH10s and of course any dead bases
Watch out: The key is not looking for loot (this is the hardest to get used too) You are looking for 27+ trophies, the more the better
Defense: At this level you shouldnt be getting attacked very much if you have good defences, and while you push every time you hit 1mill gold, buy 1 skull wall and keep gold around 500k, so not so desirable
This is realtively easy and can be done by picking off easy bases as you go.
Step 2 Road to Master 1
Army: I got there with hogs, looking for 1 stars and 2-3 stars weak base, but this is where you might want to start practicing some more trophy pushing armies.
Barch - barbs and archer and all Lit spells, aimed at getting 50% from surrounding buildings. Look for weaker bases and bases where the splash damage, XBows, heroes and infernos are deep. Lit spells can 1 shot any builders hut or heroes pad (5-7%) deploy heroes at end to mop up and get the 50%
Balloons - there are many experts at this, Im not....I will continue to learn it but there are 2 ways, shock and awe one side of the base 24-30 baloons rage in and then minions followd closely trying to take out TH and get 50% for 2 stars. The other way is srategically pick off air targeting defence and let minions take out buildings without being fired on, very surgical and takes practice but mny bases can be beaten this way.
GOWIWI/WIPE: The big armies that we use in CW are probably the most effective, if you can pull it off - see other strategies for more details
DRAG; this is popular strategy for 1-2 star with rage seems to be the way, our new legend sergeus has this method down pat!
For me it was Hog, you have to be patient, nexting until you find the right base. Its really tough up here, one mistake and lose the battle and you will lose a whole days play 30trophies etc. Find the right base - for me NO AQ! CC easily lurable and weak ITs - lvl 1 if possible and weak splash. Those are the ones you want
Step 3 - Get acclimatized at 3000
This is where it gets tough, its very easy to lose a raid and a bunch of trophies. You need to spend some time at 3000 range to find the army comp that works for you, practice it, and practice finding the right base.
I went with GOWIPE, it is was has worked well with me in CW and I learnt the bases that I could get 2 stars on.
My Army: 4 pekka, 2 golems, 6 wbs, 15 wizards, 8 archers - 2 rage, 2 freeze, 1 jump - CC; 1 Pekka, 2 Wiz, 2 barbs (You guys must have seen that msg 1000s of times!)
My Criteria; NO HEROES (Unless a dead or very weak base) this is a no compromise, I lost many raids thinking I could take the heroes out as well. I then look for bases without many compartments and clear paths to the TH,and not too many buildings on the outside
My GOWIPE Strategy; You may have seen some replays, but here is what I do; Golems down spaced apart a bit to draw as much fire as possible from defence, wbs in between (watch out for splash, time in between mortars etc) then a line of wizards (10) in behind the golems to take out all the crap in the way of getting peks to middle, about now I drop a rage, that catches the golems and wiz and they go to town. Next is peks, drop one to see where they go, then the others, check the IT and XBOWs, Teslas (they are the 3 worst defence buildinds, freeze where needed) then jump spell to get to center, heroes in, rest of wiz, and rage in the middle. Keep eye on heroes and use ability when needed. I keep 8 archer always for clutching out failed raids - it really helps!
On the right bases that is always 2 stars, I have had a few 3 stars on empty or weak bases.
Step 4 - Next until the right base!
I spent over a week at 3000-3150, going up and down failing many raids and getting smashed as soon as log off.
It took me awhile to really understand the bases that i could definitely 2 star or at least clutch a 1 if things went wrong, in the end it really is just about patience and nexting. My second to last raid I nexted over 1mill gold finding a base to pull me to within 3 trophies. If you keep nexting, don't settle for risky bases, you will find the right one. There are surprisingly more exposed TH than I thought and extremely under developed bases as well.
Step 5 - Final Push
As soon as you log off at 3000 plus you will be smashed, every now and then a win but mostely smashed...
So when you get close - maybe 50-75 trophies etc, try and find a boost session when you can stay online and not go off, tell the clan we can prepare the troops and then just attack as much as you can! You will get there!
In summary:
1. Get up to master 2 - its not really difficult, you wont be raided much as a th10
2. Get acclimatized at around 3000 trophies, find the army comp that works for you, practice it, and practice finding the right base.
3. Final push, when you get within 75 trophies try and put aside a session of boosted barracks, spells and heroes and stay online to not get raided
4. Finally an awesome clan (That's you guys!) that can support you with high lvl troops and doesn't care about ratios etc when you get close to your goal
More advice from the forums - Maybe I should have tried the TH outside:
1. Don't take risks, better to next a 100 times more than end up losing a raid at 49% and cursing because you just lost hours or even a day of progress.
2. While your troops are cooking and you have a big enough reserve of gold (2mil+) just next for TH snipes, you have to stay online anyway, might aswell do something usefull and speed up the push. There are actually quite a nice amount of free TH's outside.
3. Put your TH outside, you're not gonna win a defenses unless you have a pro design and a fully maxed base and get lucky that the attacker is horrible. With TH outside you'll get sniped a lot more than you'd expect.
